CPSC Product Registry: what to prepare before you start
The Registry lets you enter certificate data once and file with a short reference ID. Getting the data ready first saves hours.

What the Product Registry is
The Product Registry is CPSC’s online database where importers store certificate data in advance. Each record gets a unique reference ID, and your customs broker sends only that ID with each entry instead of the full certificate data.
For products imported by international mail, the final rule requires the certificate data to be in the Registry before the shipment arrives.
When it makes sense
- You import the same products repeatedly under the same certificate.
- You have many SKUs and want each entry to carry only a reference ID.
- You ship by international mail.
- You want one controlled place to update certificate versions when tests or factories change.
Data checklist
| Field | What it means | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Product identification | Model, SKU and GTIN or UPC, plus a description that matches the product | Your SKU list, packaging, Amazon listing |
| Rules certified to | Each CPSC rule, ban or standard that applies | Test report summary page |
| Manufacturer | Factory name and address | Supplier documents, purchase orders |
| Date and place of manufacture | Month and year, city and country | Purchase orders, production records |
| Date and place of testing | When and where the product was tested | Test report cover page |
| Testing lab | Lab name; for a CPC, a CPSC-accepted lab | Test report cover page |
| Certifier | Your company name, address, phone and email | Your records |
| Records custodian | Who keeps the test records, with contact details | Your records |
Who should enter the data
Keep the Registry account and the certification in your own hands. Your team, or your broker under your instruction, enters and certifies each record.
What you can hand off is the preparation: collecting documents, checking each field against its source and laying the data out field by field so entry takes minutes, not hours.
Tips that prevent problems
- Map every reference ID to its SKUs in one sheet your broker can use.
- Create a new certificate version when a product, factory or test changes, and retire the old one.
- Watch test report dates: plan retests before a certificate goes out of date.
- Keep the source documents behind every record for five years.
